Little Rob is bringing the beats to Bunker Bar
Ready to explore your CMNM fantasies?
If you're into the Clothed Man/Naked Man fantasy, then you'll probably want to get your tickets for CMNM: Cruise at London's Bunker Bar on 30 November.
Providing a sexed-up soundtrack for the night is DJ Little Rob.
We caught up with Little Rob for a preview of what's he got planned for CMNM: Cruise.
When did you discover and start to explore your passion for music?
I've always been passionate about my music, even from an early age.
For my 13th birthday, I got a handful of tunes and my first pair of vinyl turntables - which were old-school belt-driven. I'd asked for them after reading a book called “How to DJ Properly” - a book that has been read by many successful and famous DJs.
The book explained everything you needed to know to start your DJ journey, and that was what really started my passion - I understood a lot of it quite quickly and wanted to pursue the craft further.
I used to spend hours and hours in my bedroom practicing and recording my mixes onto cassette and playing them back to friends from school. None of them knew where I had made a mistake or any of the DJ jargon, which was frustrating, so I started to give them to my music teacher - he was quite cool and gave me the constructive criticism I needed in order for my passion to grow.
I luckily had a Saturday job and a paper round - I spent the majority of my wages on vinyl and had a cool collection of almost a thousand in a couple of years. I still have them all in my loft studio and often have a spin on them for fun - it’s the feeling of actually touching the record, which excites me compared to the digital format, plus I think it sounds better.
I knew I was going to become a DJ after my first experience actually being in a proper DJ booth with the legend Pete Wardman. This was at Turnmills, the original and spiritual home of TRADE. I was only 16 at the time and spent hours watching the pioneers that have paved the way for many others and that have influenced and created new genres and styles.
How do you ensure that the music that you're going to play will help create the vibe of the night?
I don’t always plan my sets, as I like to read the room and go with the vibe and the atmosphere at that time.
For example, your night is a cruise and fetish dance party, so I need to take into account the guys pumping in the play areas as well as on the dance-floor.
I'm going to start the night off with Gaydar Radio Anthems and Classics - which will get people in the partying mood - then I'll play very deep, dark, and sexy house, progressing up to Tech-house and Techno when things start to get hot and steamy!
If you're DJing at a sex party, do you get turned on by the sexual energy in the room or are you too focused on the music?
I do get turned on - it’s quite hard not too! It also influences my music on the night.
One time, there was a couple of hot guys fucking next to the DJ booth. They were fucking in sync with my beats, so I started to speed the music up, which made them go faster and faster. It was quite funny but also very hot.
The party at Bunker Bar on 30 November is a Clothed Man/Naked Man party—what will you be wearing on the night?
I have played out naked a few times in Vauxhall, which was fun, and I have been to many naked/fetish club nights.
On your night, I will probably wear my harness, pup collar, jock, and boots.
But if there are more people naked than clothed I will probably join them and get naked too!
What do you hope that guys feel when they're listening to the music that you'll be playing at CMNM: Cruise at Bunker Bar?
I hope they are feeling energised, happy, and horny with the eroticism in my music.
